Common Types of Hidden Collision Damage

At Kirmac Collision & Autoglass, we’re proud to offer comprehensive auto collision repair from our 18 Vancouver, BC auto body shops. Sometimes, damage from a crash is obvious: broken windows, damaged body panels, and other issues are all common repairs after an auto collision. Unfortunately, though, the damage from a collision often goes deeper than meets the eye – and even if your car seems fine after a crash, there may be internal damage that can cause serious problems if not repaired.

What Are the Most Common Types of Hidden Collision Damage?

Even after a minor accident, it’s critical to have your car checked by a quality Vancouver collision repair shop. Even low-speed car accidents can cause damage to internal elements of your car, and without repairs, that damage can cause major systems to fail. Here are a few of the most common hidden problems after a collision:

  • Misaligned Wheels: Even a low-speed collision can knock your wheels out of alignment, and this can cause major problems over time. Wheel misalignment decreases handling and gas mileage while also causing uneven wear on the tires. Over time, this can put you at a higher risk for a tire blowout.

  • Diagnostic Codes: Even if your check engine light doesn’t come on after a crash, your car may have active diagnostic codes that require attention. A collision repair or auto mechanic shop can check these codes electronically, ensuring there are no hidden problems that will harm your car later on.

  • Damaged Cooler Hose: We all know how critical the transmission is to a car, and how costly it is to repair. But even if your transmission works fine after a car crash, the cooler hose – which supplies coolant to the transmission – may be damaged without your knowing. If the cooler hose is bent, pinched, or otherwise restricted after a crash, it can’t supply coolant to the transmission and will eventually cause the transmission to fail.
