Check Your TiresAt Kirmac Collision & Autoglass, we do everything we can to keep you and your car safe – whether that’s replacing a cracked windshield, fixing a dent in your hood, or bringing your car in for a full collision repair in one of our Vancouver collision repair shops. While what we do in our shop is paramount, it’s also equally important for you to keep track of your car’s maintenance needs – and one of the major things to monitor is your tire health. That’s why for this blog, we’re going to give you a quick, easy test to determine if you need new tires.

Penny for Your Thoughts

Over time, the tread on your tires wears down from use. This wear process is slow, but if left
unchecked it can leave your tires dangerously worn and unable to provide proper grip – which is
an easy way to end up in an accident. Thankfully, there’s a simple method to check your tire
tread: the penny test. This is one of the easiest self-tests you can perform on your car, and the
best part is that you only need a penny to do it!

Simply place a penny – head down – into a few of the tread grooves in your tire. If you can see the
top of the Queen’s head, it means your treads are worn and too shallow to be driven, so it’s time to replace your tires. If the top of the Queen’s head is covered by your treads, your tires are probably fine to drive on and you don’t need to replace them. It’s that easy!
